Registered ATAA Breeders

The ATAA Registered Breeders Program is designed to encourage breeders to register their foals with the ATAA and the closed studbook (VNIIK) held in Russia in the year that they are born, to register their older horses with the ATAA and VNIIK, and to test their breeding horses for Naked Foal Syndrome (NFS).  This Program will help ensure that valuable breeding stock is not lost to the Akhal-Teke population due to registration issues and that NFS is controlled in the population.  In addition, the ATAA Registered Breeders Program gives prospective buyers the assurance that horses from a Registered Breeder have their registration paperwork complete.  The ATAA does not endorse Registered Breeders, nor do we certify the quality of horses from Registered Breeders.  The ATAA merely recognizes that to the best of our knowledge Registered Breeders have the paperwork for Akhal-Tekes and/or Akhal-Teke crosses in order.
The requirements of a Registered Breeder are as follows:
  • An ATAA member in good standing may apply for Registered Breeder status once they have produced a purebred or partbred Akhal-Teke foal.
  • A Registered Breeder owns one or more reproductive purebred Akhal-Tekes with the intention of breeding purebred and/or partbred Akhal-Teke foals.
  • All purebred Akhal-Teke horses owned by a Registered Breeder are registered with the ATAA and the closed studbook (VNIIK) held in Russia and partbred Akhal-Teke horses owned by a Registered Breeder are registered with the ATAA.
  • All Akhal-Teke breeding stock owned by a Registered Breeder has been tested for Naked Foal Syndrome or their status can be determined by the status of their parents.
  • All new purebred Akhal-Teke foals owned by a Registered Breeder are registered with the ATAA and the closed Russian studbook and all partbred Akhal-Teke foals are registered with the ATAA in the year they are born.
  • Records of all Registered Breeders purebred and partbred Akhal-Teke pregnancies and births are submitted to the ATAA by December 31st annually.
  • A Registered Breeder is a current ATAA Ranch Member that has paid their membership dues by December 31 annually, a current 10 year member, or a lifetime member.
  • A Registered Breeder has paid the $10 program fee to the ATAA by December 31 annually the year prior to certification.  The December 31 deadline may be waived during a Registered Breeders first year in the Program if they request certification part way through the year, however the fee will not be prorated.
Reason:
- To promote the welfare of the breed by emphasizing the importance of  registering in the closed studbook held in Russia
- To educate owners and buyers to be aware of the differences of registrations
- Create a better market for the breed by being more professional
- Encourage breeders to register their horses and test for NFS
- Better record keeping and more streamline with Russian registration

In Return:
- Breeder receives a certificate from the ATAA with a gold embossed ATAA  seal mark on it
- Certificate is good for one year

Registered Breeder Fees:
- For Current Life members $80
- For 10 year member $40
- For Ranch members $10

What consists of a breeding farm:
- must be a ranch member, current life time member, or 10 year member
- must
owns one or more reproductive purebred Akhal-Tekes with the intention of breeding purebred and/or partbred Akhal-Teke foals
