Notice for those planning to bring horses to our 2004 ATAA, Inc. MO and rare breeds Exhibition this fall in Washington State:

If you live East of the Rockies—because of distance involved—be sure your horses are carrying more weight than usual prior to shipping. The farther they travel, the more they "shrink," to use an old livestock transport term. If a horse is carrying normal weight and is on the road for 2 or 3 days, it will not only dehydrate, but also most won't stay on feed as well as if at home. Best to fatten them up, so when they arrive, they will still be in show shape. If a horse is at all underweight before you leave home, it will lose even more and surely won't exhibit to its best advantage.
